OBJECTIVE

Little Burde Chocolate is a tiny bean to bar operation set in the fog drenched beach side of San Francisco. I was asked to design the branding and packaging that reflected the niche culture of the Outer Sunset neighborhood.

SOLUTION

We carefully considered the size and thickness of the bar, down to the mold design. At 20g a piece, these are the perfect single serving size to pair with a cup of coffee. The colors are inspired by the colorful homes in the Outer Sunset neighborhood and the patterns connect us to the beach-side environment.

PACKAGING REFRESH

After a few years of carefully packaging every chocolate bar by hand with foil and paper sleeves, Little Burde Chocolate came to me to discuss ways to speed up production. They still loved the original design I had created, so we made small adjustments and turned them into compostable pouches. This cut down on over 16 hours of labor per 200 bars of chocolate! Now they can temper and wrap in one day instead of two!

“Being little—and staying little—allows us to act righteously. And that righteousness is what makes the chocolate so damn good!”
